User Testing

Eye-Tracking Test

Screen capture of an eye-tracking test

The eye-tracking test deploys all of the techniques used in observing and recording the eye’s track across the screen..

An analysis of eye movements can show whether the user is reading or scanning the screen. This process serves to reveal the items that the user lingers on, and the intensity with which he or she looks at the screen during such interactions. The resulting information is useful in determining the best positions for Web-based ads, for example.

This type of test is of benefit to websites, and in particular to the automotive and aviation product industries and manufacturing industries with assembly lines. faceLAB® can also be used to recreate a 3-D usage environment.

This technique supplements usability tests, and enriches them with non-verbal responses. Eye tracking reveals what users actually do rather than what they say they do.

Using the faceLAB® eye-tracking application, we measure how the eye tracks and the directions in which the eyes move across the screen. This information gives us a better understanding of user behaviour, motivations, and perception.

By analyzing this information, we can give you a better understanding of the behaviour of system users, their motivations, and the manner in which they perceive the interfaces that they are using and the environments in which they are functioning.

FaceLab® can be used to:

  • Understand the pattern used in reading a web page, for example
  • Verify whether users actually read what they see on the screen
  • Determine whether users are looking for something specific on the screen page, or if they are merely browsing

In the Web marketing field, faceLAB® can be used to:

  • Identify the elements that first capture the attention of users
  • Determine where users are looking on the screen, which items they see, and which items they ignore
  • Determine whether Web banners or ads have been read, and select the best possible position for them

In the field of transportation, faceLAB® can be used to:

  • Analyze the behaviour and habits of car drivers
  • Observe what they see on the road
  • Verify their attention rates on the road, and identify how their eyes behave (blinking, staring, voluntary movements, etc.).
  • Determine how driving-specific technologies (cell phones, GPS, etc.) are used

In the field of software, faceLAB® can be used to:

  • Monitor the direction of eye movement and staring
  • Observe head positioning and orientation
  • Check eye behaviour during specific tasks and procedures
  • Analyze workstations
